Get help with your sleep

If you’re struggling with your sleep, support is available.

NHS patients registered with a GP in Gloucestershire can self-refer to our digital sleep clinic, which is a consultant-led service. This means you can access assessment and treatment for sleep problems without needing a GP appointment first.

Who is this service for?

The service is for adults only (18yrs+). You can refer yourself if you’re experiencing:

  • Ongoing difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or waking too early (insomnia)
  • Poor sleep quality that affects how you feel during the day
  • Fatigue, low mood, or difficulty concentrating linked to sleep

What support is available?

Our digital sleep clinic is delivered online. All support is provided through a secure platform, and our team will help you get set up so you can easily access the service.

The support available includes:

  • A structured review of your sleep
  • Clinical assessment and diagnosis, where appropriate
  • Management advice for you and your GP
  • Access to cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), where suitable
    • Support from trained practitioners to guide you through the our CBT-I programme (Sleepstation CBTi)
  • Advice and pathways for other sleep conditions, where appropriate.

CBT-I focuses on addressing the underlying causes of insomnia by helping you change patterns of thinking and behaviour that affect sleep. It is recommended by NICE and offers an alternative to long-term use of sleeping tablets.

Diagnostic testing, including sleep studies, is not provided directly by this service but may be recommended or arranged through other appropriate pathways where clinically indicated.

When to speak to your GP

You should contact your GP instead of self-referring if:

  • You have a complex medical or mental health condition affecting your sleep
  • You may have a sleep disorder that requires medical investigation (such as sleep apnoea)
  • You are unsure whether this service is right for you.

If needed, the digital sleep clinic team can also advise you to seek further medical support.

Is our insomnia programme (Sleepstation CBTi) suitable for you?

Sleepstation CBTi is a helpful resource for many people struggling with insomnia, but it may not be suitable for everyone. Certain medical conditions may affect your ability to use the programme effectively.

It is intended for adults (18+) who experience persistent sleep difficulties and insomnia symptoms, including those with diagnosed Insomnia Disorder.

It is not recommended for people with: epilepsy or a history of seizures; psychosis; bipolar disorder/mania; schizoaffective disorder; schizophrenia; those at high risk of falls; or people currently detoxing from drugs or alcohol. It is not suitable if you are currently experiencing a mental health crisis.

We screen for these and other factors during onboarding. If our support programmes aren’t suitable for you, we’ll let you know and guide you to more appropriate care.

Full instructions for use of Sleepstation CBTi are provided here.

From expertly curated resources to ongoing personalised support, everything you need to achieve great sleep is waiting for you at the touch of a button.

It’s been three months since I finished Sleepstation and I have been sleeping really well and mostly getting 7–8 hours a night. If I wake up, I soon drift back to sleep. It’s amazing to finally get some decent sleep. I’m much happier and don’t worry about sleep anymore. Thank you all.

I think it’s a fantastic resource that should be available to all. I’ve found it extremely helpful in dealing with my insomnia and feel that I’ve slept better in the past couple of weeks than I have done in the past year or so.
