Hannah
43, sleeping badly for 3–5 years
As a parent, Hannah had accepted that her sleep pattern would be dictated by her child’s to some extent. But after between three and five years of poor sleep, she decided it was time to see if there was anything that could be done to get her back to sleeping peacefully, once again.
Hopeful that Sleepstation could give her some practical strategies to turn her sleep around, she signed up and got started with a week-long sleep and wellness review.
Hannah filled in daily sleep diaries and answered questions around her mental and overall wellbeing. At the end of the week we reviewed all of Hannah’s information, in order to build a comprehensive picture of her sleep problem and what she hoped to achieve.
Hannah’s review revealed that she was sleeping for around six hours a night but her sleep efficiency was 75%. While OK, this meant she was still spending a quarter of her time in bed awake and this was having an impact on how she was feeling during the day, particularly her energy levels.

She reported symptoms of moderate depression and a severe impairment to her next-day function.
With a clear understanding of what was impacting Hannah’s sleep and how best to address it, we designed a multi-step sleep plan that was tailored to her individual circumstances and Hannah got to work.
She engaged in weekly therapy sessions as well as making use of a library of resources to help further her understanding of sleep. She was also supported by our expert sleep team, providing her with advice, guidance and motivation whenever she needed.

Week-by-week Hannah built up a set of skills and a new perspective that allowed her to transform her attitude and approach to sleep.
By the end of the programme, she had gained almost eight extra hours of sleep a week and her sleep efficiency had seen a healthy boost up to 88%. These improvements have also had a considerable impact on her health and wellbeing. She now reports symptoms of only minimal depression and anxiety and has completely resolved any negative impact to her next-day function.

We use the Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS) to assess how a person’s sleep problem affects them day to day. These scores are reviewed at assessment and weekly throughout therapy.

We’re thrilled to have supported Hannah in her journey back to better sleep. Now she’s completed the programme she can look forward to focusing her energy on her busy family, rather than sleepless nights.
I like being able to see my progress. I’ve made some positive improvements to my sleep quality.
